Q: How much furniture will I need to move out of the room to prepare for installation?
A: All furniture must be moved out of the room to properly install carpet. But don’t panic or call a moving company just yet! As long as you move all small items such as breakables, knick nacks, electronics, etc. we can move most larger furniture items such as beds, tables, sofas, dressers, etc. Having the room clear of furniture allows us to power stretch. A very important requirement by carpet manufacturers.
Q: Will my carpet off gas after installation?
A: If any off gassing happens, it will dissipate within the first two days. Most of the dust and dirt brought up into the air from installation will be from the removal of your existing carpet. To help reduce the dust in your home during tear out, vacuum before installation.
Q: Will I see seams in my carpet?
A: There is always a possibility of seam visibility. Our installers are excellent and very experienced with seaming several different styles of carpet. In general, plush style carpets will hide seams best, where looped carpets could show more. Natural light will also play a role into whether you notice a seam or not. No seam is completely invisible but we do our best to hide seams and make them less noticeable.
Q: There are so many carpet fibers, which is the best for withstanding traffic wear overtime?
A: A nylon carpet is the most durable option compared to all other carpet fibers. It is resilient and has the ability to spring back in memory of its original form. This means even in high traffic areas your nylon will not crush. A Nylon is the best option for longevity of your investment as well. Most Nylons are meant to wear for 10-20 years depending on your household activity and how you maintain it. Think of other items made of nylon: Seatbelts, ski ropes, and parachutes. It just makes sense!
Q: When should I get my new carpet professionally cleaned?
A: According to warranty requirements, you should clean your carpet every 12-18 months. If you ever were to have a warranty claim, the first thing you’ll be asked is for carpet cleaning receipts. You’ll want to find a professional who uses hot water extraction method. Using a store-bought vacuum that steam cleans or renting a cleaning machine from your local grocery store is not recommended.
*We can recommend a great local carpet cleaner when you need it!
Q: Is there a carpet that is pet proof?
A: We can never guarantee that a carpet will be “pet proof” but there are excellent options for homes with pets nowadays. A solution dyed nylon will be most desirable for cleaning and durability. Invision 66 makes an excellent product line with pet friendly yarn. We have several options in the store to look at.
Q: What is included in the price quoted?
A: Since our installers are employees we quote full service prices in our showroom. This will include the carpet, pad, installation and pull up and recycle of your existing carpet/ pad.
Q: My floors are squeaky, can you fix it when you install my new floor?
A: Absolutely! We can minimize and sometimes eliminate squeaks by screwing down the sub floor. During replacement of your floor is the perfect time to take care of it.
Q: How can I measure to get a general idea of quantity I may need for budget purposes?
A: Carpet can be pretty complex to measure as we are generally required to order it in 12 foot widths. Our best advice is to leave it up to the professionals. If your room is wider than 12 feet, you will need a seam which requires more material. Measuring the general square footage of your rooms and adding 10% can often give you a general ballpark. Allow us to measure and take a look at your layout to provide an exact quote based on how much carpet your space requires. Call us to schedule a measurement!
